The goal is to improve on the numbering system for specifications, which is to focus on solving the current limitations:
- Rigid hierarchy that’s difficult to extend.
- Material-based organization instead of system-based organization.
- Difficult to use with BIM, digital twins, databases, and AI.
- Limited support for prefabrication, modular construction, robotics, and lifecycle information.
- Large amounts of “empty” numbering.
- Similar systems scattered across multiple divisions.
Proposed: Universal Construction Specification Format (UCSF)
Instead of a simple division-section numbering system, every specification receives a structured identifier.
